Cassini detects surge of oxygen, circle of ’dirt’

Observations of the planet by Cassini’s ultraviolet imaging instrument show startlingly recent activity: Within the past six months or so, some unknown object may have hit the rings at extremely high speeds and released vast quantities of oxygen from the ice particles.
