We encounter unfamiliar faces quite a lot in our dreams. According to psychologytoday.com, about 50% of characters we encounter in dreams are not familiar to us. In some dreams up to 80% of characters could be strangers. However, we might recognize them only if they have one of main roles in a dream, somehow manage to stand up or if they appear in our dreams often. That's what I'd like to talk about; often dreaming about the people we've never met before.

A few weeks back, I was on a YouTube spree and I ended up watching a tone of paranormal storytimes. One, in particular, captured my attention. In a video, a girl by the YouTube name Leah Gordone talks about already terrifying enough experience; an old hag syndrome. However, there in a twist in Leah's story which raised an interested question; What if another individual, the one who is awake, witnesses the same apparition? That's exactly what is explained in the following video.

When I was nineteen years old, I had a dream about looking for a place to stay. Some older lady walked me in to the cutest studio apartment. In a dream I thought: "This would be perfect for me." A month later, I was actually looking to rent a place. As I went to check one of the apartments, I was stunt to see that the inside of this apartment looked exactly like the one I dreamed. Might I mention that I never saw this apartment before.

Dreams in general are pretty fascinating topic but the magic of lucid dreaming might be one of the most awesome things our brain is capable of doing that we know of. To start with, lucid dreaming is defined as a dream during which a dreamer is aware of the fact that they are dreaming. Besides the awareness, the dreamer might be capable of taking control of the dream. Simply put, while lucid dreaming, people are able to affect and change the environment of the dream, choose people that they wish to dream as well as interactions with people, put themselves in different situations and, basically, do anything with only limit being their own imagination.

At least the Elm Street kids could fight back against Freddy Krueger. In Dead Awake, from the writer of Final Destination, the victims suffer from sleep paralysis, which means they can’t move a muscle when confronted by night terrors. Which, since this is a horror movie, are actual monsters, not hallucinations.

One of the things needed to experience lucid dreams is that of being able to remember the dreams. The method recommended is to keep a dream journal, to write every morning immediately after waking up. You will note that, by writing the dreams you have every day, your attention during the dream journeys will become more acute and you will experience a lucid dream in a natural way without using other techniques.

The Lucid Dreaming Research Platform will analyze the EEG brainwaves and detect when the subject is dreaming. It will then trigger a stimulus (alarm, lights, etc.) in order to wake up the dreamer or create a cue to help the dreamer become aware that he/she is dreaming. In Lucid dreaming jargon, this tool will help the dreamer to induce lucid dreams through WILD (Wake-Induced Lucid Dream) or DILD (Dream-Induced Lucid Dream).

The brain connects sensory information from the environment to our subjective experiences, resulting in our perceptions, emotions, and memories. However, our brains need to disconnect — i.e., sleep — from the noisy sensory world that we’re steeped in. Sleep helps us maintain brain health, makes our memories stronger, and aids in problem solving.

Dream researcher Ryan Hurd agrees, calling sleep paralysis “an initiation into the dreaming arts,” and those who experience it as possessing “a greater ability to be touched by the world, experience life and all of its pain, as well as its beauty.” So, if you experience sleep paralysis, it seems you’re already ahead of the game and there can be ways to turn it into a lucid dream or OBE—something freeing and fantastical, and not tormenting.
