The brain connects sensory information from the environment to our subjective experiences, resulting in our perceptions, emotions, and memories. However, our brains need to disconnect — i.e., sleep — from the noisy sensory world that we’re steeped in. Sleep helps us maintain brain health, makes our memories stronger, and aids in problem solving.

"I used my kayak and paddled 2 miles to this location, and came across these huge footprints leading up the hill. I couldn't tell where they went once I got over the other side, but you can only get to this location by boat. There are no hiking trails at all to this area. My phone also overheated as usual and the video was cut short, which is a shame because I got several vocals and tree snaps across the water in the forest."

A GIANT triangular UFO that a young family photographed on the Tablelands on the weekend was likely the International Space Station (ISS) in orbit over the Far North. Kyle Mathiot was playing with sparklers with his two young boys at their Herberton home about 7.30pm on Saturday when they claimed they spotted an object with three lights that was about “100 times bigger than a plane” in the distance.

There are ways you can contribute to large-scale research. It is old news that projects let you share your computers with SETI and protein folding experiments. But that isn’t as satisfying as doing something personally. That’s where Zooniverse comes in. They host a variety of scientific projects that collect lots of data and they need the best computers in the world to crunch the data. In case you haven’t noticed, the best computers in the world are still human brains (at least, for the moment).

"Nobody has been able to explain to me what it is. I've studied hundreds of paranormal sightings and I've never seen something like this. There's no way it's a drone because it's not the right shape and it's not aerodynamic. It looks like a giant trophy or an egg timer."

If this matter does exist, what is it made of? So far, theories have ranged from saying that it is made up of cold, warm or hot matter, with the most widely-accepted theory being the Lambda Cold Dark Matter (Lambda-CDM) model. However, a new study produced by a team of European astronomer suggests that the Warm Dark Matter (WDM) model may be able to explain the latest observations made of the early Universe.

The real risk posed by AI – at least in the near term – is much more insidious. It’s far more likely that robots would inadvertently harm or frustrate humans while carrying out our orders than they would become conscious and rise up against us.

The Internet of Things that puts digital devices in just about everything. Artificial intelligence not only assisting but superseding the human brain. Genetic manipulation of food, organisms, and human parts. Human cloning—even the manufacture of human beings.

Called Proxima b, the planet is 4.2 light years away from Earth—the closest any extrasolar planet is ever likely to be—and lies within the potentially habitable zone of its star, raising the possibility for life.
