The Mushroom Religion LincolnGenghis posted:4/28/2012 1:46:42 AM Mushroom Religion Now this one is an interesting read.Levinus posted:4/28/2012 7:53:40 AM I've never seen anyone go to such bizarre lengths to justify an addiction to psychedelic mushrooms. I read some of it, but I started to feel trippy, so I backed off.jaguarsky posted:4/28/2012 11:32:49 AM I'll have to brew some shrooms and get back to you on this.spooky1 posted:4/28/2012 12:08:32 PM Alls I kept thinking of was the pick of destiny when jack black ate the mushrooms & met papa big footJaxerback posted:4/28/2012 10:06:24 PM boring!! (Some friends of mine knew him.) He was a real interesting person. The crazy thing about that paper is the whole thing might be accurate. He is not the only one that came up with some of those conclusions. It could shed some light on some of the crazier stories and riddles in the bible. Its like the right of circumcision. I mean how did that actually originate. Part of a theory on that was that people wanted their phallics to look more like a magic mushroom. Levinus posted:4/29/2012 9:25:05 AM I thought circumcision originated in the Bible? Something to do with Abraham and circumcising 200 foreskins? I dunno. I looked up the pharmacology on mushrooms. Apparently it has some pretty severe lasting psychological damage. It screws with serotonin levels and causes anxiety/panic attacks. I don't doubt it makes us more self-aware though. I've never done any drugs, but I know that we are all hard-wired for survival. Kill, protect, eat, build, kill, eat, mate, kill. It makes sense that we would need a little help connecting with our true nature. I just would rather have it done naturally through meditation. Thanks to my job, I see a lot of people on/off drugs. I gotta tell you...its not worth it.LincolnGenghis posted:4/29/2012 12:31:48 PM Well yes the whole circumcision thing is in the bible but the whole thing does not make much sense when you think about it. If we were made in Gods image , and God is infallible, then we were designed as intended without the need for an engineering change like foreskin removal. It actually seems like a body mutilation thing that would be an insult to God. The whole mushroom worshiping thing would explain allot to me in terms of some of the crazier bizarre stories and visions from the Old Testament and some of the Jewish texts. I mean jack and some others did lay quite a ground work in the translations they did to point to the possibility of weird mushroom cults in the days of old. If anything its an entertaining read that raises some questions. LincolnGenghis posted:4/29/2012 1:00:09 PM There have been many things thru history that have had underlying themes and meanings to them. I am sure there are allot of people that still think that Alice in Wonderland was just a cute kids story.
