Mikhail Gorbachev may be blamed and despised by Russian communists for presiding over the demise of the Soviet Union, but it was the result of a clearly good and necessary policy he implemented - glasnost (openness). And I submit that the USA needs its own version of glasnost.

I would wager big - meaning I’m convinced history will prove - that there’s a connection between what happened to us on Sept. 11 and the establishment of the National Security State in 1947. I’m absolutely not saying that we in any way deserved the carnage wrought by the insane fanatics. I merely believe the entire culture of secrecy (and the inevitable treachery that goes with it) is a significant enough component of the whole of the American identity and therefore the hatred and violence by our enemies - even though our enemies aren’t specifically protesting our secrecy.

We had a chance to have a completely different and better world in 1947 (or at some point soon after). One would think that, after the horror of WW2, people would have been completely ready for a truly new world. And certainly if ordinary, fair-minded people had any control over the situation, we would have begun the New Era in 1947. But most unfortunately, with the postwar paranoia from the Soviet/communist threat, the military basically took control of the national psyche.

I happen to believe in an intelligent nonhuman presence on Earth, but I’ll admit that I COULD, I suppose, be wrong and basically wouldn’t have a problem knowing the real truth if I am. Really, the question of "are they real or not?" isn’t as relevant (now) as the fact that SOMETHING is definitely going on and the public deserves better than the nonsense we’ve been fed for over 50 years. We need to raise awareness of the confusion and idiocy (at best) and violence and bloodshed (at worst) that has resulted from closed-minded, secretive, militaristic government. If we could have received the Truth about what the Higher Power or God really is back in the late ’40s or early ’50s, there would have been no rationalization by fanatics for the Sept. 11 attacks and therefore it would never have happened.

I realize my bias of believing in God/the nonhumans is evident, so I’ll do my best to be as fair as I can to the atheistic or agnostic perspective. Frankly, there’s been enough evidence - if only the reactionary doubters (commonly mistakenly referred to as "skeptics") would choose to LOOK at it and absorb it - that the unusual experiences many people have had are NOT something generated SOLELY within the minds of the witnesses. At least in enough cases, these experiences cannot be reasonably dismissed as either hallucination or imagination in origin. But IF, though I don’t believe it for a second, the WHOLE of what we now call unexplained phenomena were to prove to be (essentially) tawdry, cheesy witchcraft of whatever sort(s), then it would still be an important enough Truth that would bring, for the first time ever, real wisdom and maturity to us.

Those who fear a united Planet Earth or "one world government" do so out of a purely political, money-based view. Fear of oppressive, monolithic totalitarianism is - duh - normal and natural. But the reality is that the only way humans will ever be united and Peace on Earth will reign supreme is through a new SPIRITUAL direction based on knowledge, not faith. The present system of greedy or self-serving politics will, soon enough, be relegated to, to borrow a quote from President Bush, "history’s unmarked grave of discarded lies." I simply envision the New Era as a more honest and open version of what America already is.
