plz do let me know, my son has had pretty much the same experience you had.  my son usually will lay on his back with feet crossed to sleep, several times over the yrs he has been woke up by a dark shadow standing by his bed or leaned down looking at him and everytime it will "sit" on end of his bed and smack his feet apart then leave.... it is very scary... he is now 26 yrs old and i know this has been going on since he was about 18 yrs old.

No, I wasn't able to make out a face. Just the form of what I assume is a man. Well the even more odd thing to me is, right about the same time it happened to me, my grown son, who also lives in the same home I do, was awaked several times with a black figure hovering over him. Also, a good friend of his who lives about 35 miles away experienced the same thing.. It seems to come to all 3 of us within just days apart.    When I was about 12 yrs old my grandfather passed away , about a week after his funeral, I started seeing a ball of light bounce around in my bedroom. If I called out to my parents, the light would go away, but come back soon as the door closed..  At first I was terrified but after time it became almost a comfort.  I have had several encounters in my life with what I can only call ghost. Things falling for no reason, wash rags hanging in mid air , I would ask other people if they ever had experiences of the kind and rarely found anyone else that had or would admit to it, so yea, I know well the looks of " you poor crazy girl" lol

About a year ago, I was awaken in the middle of the night, about 2 a.m. and from the corner of my bedroom there was dark <blackish> figure  coming towards me, I opened my mouth to scream but nothing came out, no sound. The figure stood by my bedside for a moment as if looking at me and then it sat on my chest,  I feel like I must of  passed out at that moment since  that is all I can remember of it, but is as real today as it was that night. It terrified me and I have slept with the bedside lamp on since that night.  There are still many times I am awaken at night, usually between midnight and 3 a.m. and although I do not see anything, I feel as if I am being watched.   This makes me very uneasy.. Has anyone else experienced this and if so, any ideas as to what it is and why me.
