A recent poll taken among the american populace showed that of the people who claimed they were religious, only 20% of them admitted that they had faith. This means 80% go to church out of habit or as a result of social or familial obligations, but not from any real belief. In other words, kindly take your dying religion's diatribe and proseletyze elsewhere. On a side note, who says the universe happened by accident? Prepare a cake mix, then pop it into an oven at the right temperature. Would you call the resulting cake an accident? Of course not, it was the inevitable result of the right ingredients in the right proportions in the right environment. Putting them together and not getting cake, now THAT would be strange and unlikely.

What do we (as humans) actually need to lay this story to bed and convince the skeptics? Simply put, reproducible evidence. In effect, we need a cooperative ghost, one who will appear upon demand in a laboratory and be subjected to analysis by "qualified" objective individuals. To my mind, that is what paranormal investigations should be aiming for. Not ratings, not cheap amusement park thrills but the search for proof. All we need is one ghost willing to play ball. Maybe one day we will find one, but I do know we'll never find one if we don't look.
