Christianity wasn't just distorted by additions to the bible but by additions to the faith. Started pretty much with the Roman Catholic, then Catholic, Luthren, Episcipallion, Baptist, and a score of different types under one religion. Ridiculous. They tailor their faith to their specific interests. A hundred different interpretations for one verse. Makes sense to me.
