bobprin and Jaxerback, I understand both of your points.

Paranormal research is a constant search for rock-solid evidence that it often seems as though the phenomena itself (themselves?) actively evades. There are ghost stories, for example, from every corner and time, but at the very least you need to be in the right place at the right time, looking the right way, and who knows what else.

And even if you think you've got something, you have to rule out other possibilities, and ultimately all you have left is a question mark. It is probably the most frustrating field there could possibly be, and the advent of exceedingly good digital editing and insane amounts of hoaxing have made progress nearly impossible. Instead of proof, photos are automatically dismissed as fakes, or just show something completely undetermined like an odd mist.

Personal experience is always questionable, because there are liars, the insane and the simply misled to consider, and science has proven our own senses deceive us quite often, making evidence even harder.

That said, I find it odd that words like 'hallucination' and 'temporal lobe seizure' are thrown out more as excuses to dismiss a report by armchair skeptics than serious analyses by professionals (which seem to be sorely lacking on all sides of the debate). We are talking about incredible abilities of our brains to completely fabricate a visual (and possibly more than visual) experience at the very least. That's not something you should just be able to say without thinking.
Why aren't these abilities being harnessed to 'hallucinate' your way to a more enjoyable life experience, or at least tracked and studied in great detail? Doubly true of these so-called seizures. Supposedly with electrical stimulation of a certain area of the brain, you can recreate a full alien abduction. This amazing built-in VR is just half-assedly tossed out as an explanation instead of being utilized or at least given the awe it is due.

We're allowing beliefs, jokes, money-grabs, cheap entertainment, and general lack of understanding or concern to undermine the search for what could be awesome new sciences. Paranormal research (or perhaps humanity in general) needs to grow up and come into true focus.

There is admitted (coal) mining in Novato. Mind sharing where the rest of that info comes from?

Could be good, but a lot of potential to turn into this: :)

Cult originally just meant religion. Nowadays, we use the term to mean 'dangerous group that leads people astray to take their money and/or convince themselves to harm themselves or others'. Of course there are such groups. You could call fanatical church groups a cult by that kind of definition, or political zealots. They're not all Satanists by any stretch.

Pareidolia could explain several of them, also lenticular clouds, and others image manipulations like Photoshop. However, if that one ufo one is real (disc shape with apparent lights under the 'cloud' part) I'd vote on it being a spaceship.
Also this has come back into focus:

Some very interesting questions raised about the standard ghost-hunting paradigms here. I would just add one thing. As far as the 'ghost clothes', personally I think the best explanation is thought-forms. Look up tulpas and such to get the idea. In short, the ghost sees themselves that way (in those clothes) or maybe it's you on some level believing they should have clothes and filling it in. Either way, the clothes are just a manifestation. Obviously the clothes didn't die tragically or whatever, they just 'belong'.

Yikes. That's Caps Lock. Typo.

Please turn your Csps Lock off. Thank you.
Also my virus scan immediately told me that site (paranormalornot.com) was suspicious and get the heck off it now, so I did. There may be something nasty waiting to download from there, so people, be careful.
