I just stumbled apon a website that is actually helping me understand lucid dreaming more.  http://www.consciousdreaming.com/lucid-dreaming/how-to-lucid-dream.htm  I have been trying to lucid dream for quite some time now taking advise and looking into it whenever i had the spare time.  These steps unlike other things ive read seem to make more sence to me.  I know ive heard some of it before but maybe just the way it is writen is more understandable to me.  Hopefully this will help me more now that i can understand it a little better.  i expecially like the dreamsigns portion because i had not previously found this in my searches oddly enough, but i can deffinatly see this as a very helpful tool.

Dreamsigns? What do you mean? If you are talking about the meaning of things seen in dreams you have to be careful because the meaning of a thing can be very different for different people. For me, dreaming of open water is disturbing because I had a very bad water related incident as a child. So, when I dream of water it follows the stereotype of "obsticle" more closely than for someone who perhaps is an avid sailor and sees the water as a welcome opportunity.

no dream signs are little things in your dreams that always or everynow and then seem to be there.  Like in a specific place, seeing a spacific lamp, or any kind of personal thing that will help you realise that your in a dream.

When I was young, I used to have this wierd dog thing show up in my dreams. It was white and fluffy, and definately like a dog, except for it had an enlongated dog type nose that moved around kind of like an elaphant, but not nearly as long. It was in many dreams and it was familiar to me and when I saw it, I always knew I was dreaming. So that thing would be a dreamsign? All of the dreams that included that dog were always in color and very vivid and I always knew it was a dream, and always remembered them.

Thanks for clearing that up. I always try to look for the sky or horizon. In dreams those things are often not well defined or are different for some reason. At least for me.

I too have technicolor dreams and remember most of them. At least the really interesting ones.

Yep, that thing is deff. a dreamsign and according to the website, our dreamsigns grow with us and change just like we do.  which is why a dream journal is so helpful....it is hard for me to wake up in middle of night and spend the time on it tho.  i got work and a daughter.....sooooo difficult.  :(

actually some may think of this dog of yours as more of a guardian because u said it was very vivid and showed you that it was a dream.  Guardians can take whatever shape they want in your dreams.  I asume it chose that form due to the fact that it wasnt in nature and u would recognize it.  Try meditating on the thought of that dog before you go to sleep and see if you can call your gaurdian into a lucid dream.  It may teach you something.   then again others think differently, possibly a sign of alien abduction and stuff.  just depends on who you want to believe.

I don't think that it is a sign of alien abduction. I always felt safe when that dog thing was there. It was like it was my friend or something. Like it was there to help me. I will try concentrating on it tonight and see what happens.

Anyone ever have the experience of getting ready to fall asleep, and when you first close your eyes you have something that is not quite a dream, just a random incredibly vivid image, like "And now I'm staring at the front yard of a house for some reason" ?I'd take that for kind of a brain firing just to wind down sort of thing, but usually I'm pretty sure it's nothing I've ever actually seen. Useless as prediction or clairvoyance, so I really don't know.

Sounds like a vision to me.

not a bad source of info here, http://www2.ucsc.edu/dreams/FAQ/index.html, they seem to be very scientific.
