I'm currently researching a novel that I'm writing and cannot find any information on this topic.  The antagonist of the story is a ghost trying to rid his home of the woman that has moved in.  My question is: can a ghost/spirit become attached to a living item, such as a plant or tree, in the same way that they can attach to an inanimate object?  (I want to have the ghost attached to a rose bush that he planted, or possibly a lemon tree, etc.)Any help would be appreciated with this and I thank all of you in advance!-Jake

i would say its possible......i few years ago my freinds mother although old and nearing the end at this point she was still with it so to speak.  tracy used to pop in everyday make make sure she was okay...it was on such an occasion that the mum became very distressed claiming she was seeing a young gir lighting fires and dancing round on the dining table.......Of course it was brushed off and thought no more of it.......the old lady passed away not long after.......The table was then passed to tracy's cousin and no more said......Until that is after a few weeks in the new home the young lad....15 at the time came in the living room white with fear.........he then went on to say he saw a young girl dancing round the table....not knowing about the previous history.........well i sure think its possible

and although he story was about an inanimate object the table was solid wood.......so at one point it was a living thing........although i would say if the ghost  felt sometihng for a particular tree or bush no reason for it not to becaome attached as they become attached to people so why not bushes shrubs etc  that said.......i really could be wrong its just a thought......hope i helps

The first thing that came to mind was the Spirit of God speaking to Moses via "burning" bush, and that area was then considered "sacred ground".The second thing is that I've only heard stories of trees and groves haunted by those who died there (either the ghost is of one murdered there who wants to bring attention to their death, or the spirit of a person who simply loved the place.)

Of course all humans can be attached or even obsessed with inanimate objects and even plant life such as trees and plants. We are connective creatures, we can be attatched to all things pets and objects are common. This is the nature of mankind. We have captured evidence connected to all sorts of objects and this indicates that we as humans connect to all things in our environment. Good luck to you on your research.

Paintings are common to this phenomena. Such as dorian Grey. And there are many cases of haunted objects, such as watches pipes and even cars. Any object that was cared for is fair game for haunting.

Thanks for the comments.  I think, based on what people have said here, that I will go aheads with the idea of the rose bush.  Thanks guys!  If I have any more quandries, I'll come here first.

No. It's impossible for something that doesn't exist to attach to anything.

Based on my experience, it's possible for that which has the ability to retain energy to acquire an attachment made up of energy.  In the case of your hypothetical rosebuse, the rosebush is capable of photosynthesis (transference of light energy to chemical energy).Good luck with your novel, Jake.

Ghosts (spiritual energy) can attach themselves to various objects that had meaning in their life.  It is not out of the realm of possiblity that your character would be attached to a plant--especially if it had some significance during his/her earthly life.

None of us have died yet. So none of us know the true answer. But if energy is available to all living things then perhaps it is possible for those who have changed over to attach themselves to a living object such as a plant.

if ghosts can be atatched to ppl than im sure it could be to a tree.  as long as there are really strong feelings that have to coincide with it.  for example his wife was buried under the rose bush possibly after he killed her and thats why he didnt want the lady living there.

 Energy /= Feelings.

But, what about the experiments on NDEs? Surely atheists and religious zealots alike share something in common there?
