HARP and the Winter that never was.

I got admit this is turning into one of the weirdest winters in my
memory. Living in Minnesota on and off for the better part of my
life I don't think I remember a stranger winter. Last week we were
in the 50s. Actually I think we have been breaking records for
temperatures so far this winter. It should feel arctic right now
but it does not. We finally got a little bit of snow today that almost
made the ground White (Pretty much unheard of here). We should
already have some decent sized snow banks.

Meanwhile last week Alaska gets 18 feet (yes the number is correct)
in some of its smaller towns (That would be about 5.4864 meters
to the uninitiated of our perfect measuring system.).

I am just wondering if and what kind of bizarre weather other
people are possibly seeing in their part of the world.

I know very little about HARP but I am wondering what other
peoples thoughts are on that also. Is it playing a role in this
whole thing? or is it just a scapegoat for something nobody seems
to have an answer to?
Or is this whole weather thing just some weird cyclical pattern
that covers so much time that we just don't have accurate historical
weather records that go back far enough to prove it?

Anybody with any ideas on this is more then welcome to jump in on
this one. I don't know what to think at this point.

Yes here in England we were braced for a cold snap and nothing, all my summer plants are still flowering, they should have died off 6 months back, so we have defo had it mild, last year temps here reached minus 23 centigrade, the same time this year has been a steady plus 10 centigrade aside from the occasional frost.

Here we should have already had a couple days -21 to -23 Degrees Centigrade. (-5 to -10 below zero F)

Trees got so confused about a week or so ago that they started too sprout buds like it was spring. Squirrels and rabbits are still running around all over the place confused as hell. They should have already been hunkered down for the winter.

Here in Alabama, its been weird, too. We go from temps lows 40`s/50`s, highs 70ish down to 20`s for a couple of days, then its back to high`s in the 70`s. My grass is growing super fast, and really needs cutting, but I`m not gonna do it. lol Dunno, it`s been a strange winter.

Well here, cape town south africa, until about maybe a month ago we were getting rain in the summer that exceeded our winter. We normally get loads rain in winter. And the whales that swim by to breed were two months late last year. the global climate is becoming very wierd

Where are you in Alabama? I live in Mobile. We got the same thing here. It goes from wearing shorts in a tank one day, to a thick hoody, jeans, and boots the next. And its back and forth every few days. Its weird. And our plants are also confused. We have outside plants that keep trying to bloom. Seems like we would be hearing about it on a bigger scale. But it must not be that important cause none of the news channels have really covered it to my knowledge.

Yeah that's kind of why I'm curious about the whole thing. There seems to be this strange weather all over the place that the news does not seem to be covering, at least from a global perspective. And according to Four it seems to be affecting the migratory pattern of whales also.Whatever is going on it seems global. I do know that the earth did do a minor shift on its axis during the earthquake in Japan but according to the experts it was not suppose to affect any noticeable change.

If there are any Climatologists,Meteorologists,Astronomers
or Astrophysicists strolling thru here I would love to here your take on this weird weather.

Well I looked around and found maybe a part of my answer but it only seems to have to do with North America and the Jet Stream. But they are not positive as to the cause of the weird jet stream.
Weird Winter Weather

One suggestion was sun spots.

As in January, still the same thing going on. Here in Alabama where I live, we`re having a couple of cold days, after all that spring-like weather, then its back up to the 60`s, near 70 degrees. But I was just reading that in some places like Europe, et al, they`re having record breaking cold. Is the jet stream affecting the whole world all at one time? Maybe it is, I just don`t know that much about it.

It is about 26 here in North Carolina, cold weekend on tap but spring like temps returning by mid week, which is fine with me. I don't like the cold. Some times weird is good.

I re-visited this thread because I`ve been reading on the internet of all the records being broken as far as weather is concerned. It`s really strange all over, now. Oh well, I love the warm spring-like winter. Everyone says we need the cold to kill the bugs, but I say we have bug spray for that! lol

HARP's output is insufficient for such an effect.

I've seen winters like this before. Seems like every 15-20 years there's a shift to a milder winter. It's part of a drought cycle. A natural shift to a dryer season means little to no snow fall. The lack of snow on the ground allows the ground to absorb more light/heat which keeps temperatures up. After the last couple winters we've had around here this isn't so bad.
breeld   posted:2/17/2012 6:08:03 AM  (Reply)
You`re right-I love this warm weather. Spring-like here, til Sunday, then back to warm temps again. But in Europe, they`re having record breaking cold and snow. I dunno about climate change, as I`ve read that it naturally changes on its own after so many years, but I do believe we add a little to the problem.
But it would be nice if our winters stayed like this..lol

Indiana reporting in. Strange winter. Very warm. I took pictures of daffodils and other flowers in my garden beds growing in mid January.

We've had some really warm days for winter. The plants agree. It seems like I've also been hearing "spring" birds. Robins and the like.

I too am in Alabama. Gadsden to be specific. Plants have been blooming here for two weeks.
