 Sonic boom.  Had something similar happen last year in Tacoma, WA.  Everyone thought it was Mt Rainier exploding (which would have been way more exciting IMO).  Sure initial reports are going to be there were no military aircraft in the area because the military will want to have all its ducks in a row before making a statement, but I'd put money down saying it was a sonic boom.

The news is now reposrting that the U.S. Geological Survey is saying it was a 1.7 magnitude earthquake.
