The Folly of Doomsday

For amusement I have been checking out the prepper movement sweeping the country. Viewing past shows of "doomsday preppers" and related videos on youtube. Everybody has A PLAN. I firmly believe that everyone should be prepared for an emergency with various supplys and alternate means of comfort. Fema recommends a three day supply of food and water and not to leave your home. The way the people depected on these shows take this to extremes is disconcerting at best. The problem is that plans rarely work. The situations you imagine rarely happen the way you think. Being heavily armed and prepared to shoot on sight anyone encroaching on your area is absurd. Teaching young children to shoot to kill is criminal. Do you have an opinion?

Yeah, my b/f used to watch the prepper shows. Some preppers border on mental illness, in my opinion. One woman even had drygoods stored inside her hollow doors.
But....I have been sticking back water, cause you never know what might happen. I keep thinking I`ll store some staples, but just never get around to it.
There may not be an apocalypse, but other things can go wrong. I just can`t see myself going overboard, like in those shows you watched, but still, it doesn`t hurt to be prepared for
something happening...a little food, first-aid kit, water, ect.
btw/we do have a 9mm, but I`d like to have a small shotgun to go with it. But if it got to where you had to shoot people coming to your area, it`d probably already be too late in the game to plan on having a long existence. You`d probably just be prolonging the inevitable.

Well one guy had 2000 packs of ramen noodles and a couple hundred gallons of water. He would have to abandon that if he had to relocate. I would have to say a person would just have to be flexable and be able to deal with whatever situation arose. Having children would be hard because they would have to be quiet and remain still. That is very hard for kids to do. I wouldn't last long as I take several prescriptions per day. Once they run out unless I'm lucky .....

It`s scary to think what "might" happen. Hope we never have to find out.
Living in the city, it probably wouldn`t matter too much if you have food saved up. You probably wouldn`t live long enough to eat it. Neighbors would probably get it, because it would be all about self-preservation.
Neighbors don`t come together like they used to. Heck, I don`t even know any of my neighbors, except for my sons who live next door, and an old lady up the street.
I have to admit, tho, I have considered what may happen if something apocalyptic occured, and
all I know to do would be to get all my family together at my house.

Good, because it would be bewildering at first. Good information would be a valuable thing. We all know how the rumor mill works. There would be no reason to panic at first unless you could see a mushroom cloud or zombies staggering around. I remember a long power outage a few years back. I was in wyoming when I first heard of it. The phones still worked and alot of places had generators. Mary was inconvienced at worst and it never affected me. Long term though it would be bad for the cities. A pandemic would be a total different matter.

I can't deny it,,,,, I have quite a few unconventional weapons in case of a zombie apocolypse. we even have a contingency plan set up to meet at an old abandoned house outside of town. I havent bothered to keep a bunch of food stockpiled though because I have teenagers... those things eat everything in their path LOL! but I do have seeds and know quite a bit of survival tactics such as how to tan and preserve furs and leather, gardening ect ect... Honestly though I love at ground zero for a nuclear war. so I don't actually believe anyone in my area would survive the initial blast of a major disaster.

good advice to you humans would be get canned foods they last longer and watch that show on travel channel called wild man or read survival books and get weapons that are easy to carry and not too big or bulky if worried about the enivetible upcoming appocalypse

The one thing that is a very real threat here in the forest would be refugees. Desperate, hungry people with no destination. Even if martial law was declared the soliders and police would be horribly out numbered. The katrina disaster is a good example. One area, it took five days to get water there. They could not supress crime even in that stadium. Now, multiply that by 1600 cities times how many suburbs times how many small towns? People are gonna die. Daymoons son could catch a fish, there would be a hundred people there to take it from him. You load your kids in the car and take off, where are you gonna go? There are no safe places. The highways will become deadly parking lots. You got a gun, how many people can you shoot? What about tomorrow? There will be no help coming. The soliders and police will be overwhelmed and will soon go to protect their own families. Survival will be minute by minute, hour by hour, day by day. I pray this won't happen but just look at the world right now.

Ok, bobprin-now you`ve got me to thinkin`. lol Ok, I guess I need to watch a few of those shows to see how to be better prepared. A few jugs of water just ain`t gonna suffice, huh?

Daymoon-where`d you learn all those survival tactics? And where is ground zero?
I live right next to Ft. Benning, Ga., but I don`t think they`d be much in the way of protection.

I did a part of my military training at ft benning. The gov, when they realize they cannot control the situation will hole up and wait until things calm down. It would take about 90 days for resourses and people to run out. Their main job is continuity of government not protection of the people, the same as law enforcement. They must survive to do their jobs. Hence all these underground roads, bunkers, secret installations, etc. Look at the past. The watts riots, the police kept out of the area. The rodney king riots, the police stayed out of the area. Actually, the best strategy would be to avoid all the crap if its possible. Yep, they got a plan and your well being is not part of it.

Well, dayum! So much for protection, huh! But, you`re right. We`d all be on our own. Horrible thought.

What would be wierd is all these people who wish it would happen so that there would be no law and they would be free to run amok. People with dark fantasys of looting, shooting, raping, etc. They are sane enough to keep it in check now but would relish the chance to maraud. The eldery would not stand much of a chance, prison populations would be locked down and gassed. Very scary.

I hate to say it..but..it is the American way...
bobprin   posted:12/21/2013 2:27:35 AM  (Reply)
I would think it would be the same everywhere. People would try and band together but would need resourses, luck, and a clever leader to last long. Ireland, or any island is a natural place to defend. Of course being isolated myself for the most part I don't know how the rest of the world would react. It's nice to hear from you again Jaxerback. I so look forward to your comments.

yeah I'm back baby!!!!
I learned most of what I know from rednecks. and ground zero, why the pipeling crossroads of the world :) if someone wanted to hit the worlds oil supply and hit it hard they would nail the switching station located there. ALL of the countries crude supplies go through that switching station. For reasons I would rather not discuss I believe that is where world war three will begin. At least the physical part of it that isnt decided by some asshole safely behind a desk ordering others to their deaths while he hasnt got a clue or a care in the world.

I just dont get all the doomsday religions wishing for armageddon :( especially the ones who love to knock on my door believing only a certain number of folks will get in and they are actualy trying to meet that goal! it seems to me they should stop and think while they are recruiting lol what if I behave better and knock one of them off the list.....
