Like... not online, where in a city can you buy such a thing?

Try Grainger, or electronics stores.  These places sometimes carry them.

Grainger is a good place to go, but eBay is awesome.  Look for K2 meters, find one with free shipping and handling, wait till the last second to bid and whammo, $5 EMF detector.

I still say eBay is the place to go, but I've got an addiction for bying junk cheap.  I don' know what kind of area you live in, but if there are any electrical enigineers in the area you might see if they could build one for you custom.  That way you can get one with a power source/battery size that you want, with the right size, and all the other bells and whistles you want.

I can understand your interest in all the electronic gadgetry of ghost hunting, but really items like an EMF detectors, digital thermometers, etc. are just eye candy, what people want is proof. Invest your money into night vision cameras, digital cameras, and voice recorders first and worry about the "eye candy" later. As they say, "a picture is worth a thousand words".

Online purchasing is the only way to go unless you're buying clothes. You'll usually save money buying online than from a local retailer, there's more competition.

Have you tried RadioShack?

Emf detectors, don't they also help with debunking areas as well?

EMF detectors can be used to detect fear cages.  A fear cage is any area that has naturally high EMF such as around wireways and big breaker boxes.  A high EMF field can cause paranoia, hysteria, uneasiness, and in some cases hallucination.  People will often interpret these symptoms as paranormal activity.

Cool beans!  I would very much like to believe this theory 100 percent, but here is why not. Have you ever heard any ghost stories coming from power plant workers?I spent a lot of time in the engine rooms of ships, the generators surround you. Never did I have the paranoid feelings, etcetera. I did however experiment with frequency variation in the Electronics shop, and even though it was cool, that caused major problems. I am sure you have to be ultra sensitive to EMF to be able to feel anythhing. For crying out loud, the earth is one giant magnet with varying flux on a daily basis and we all presume to be sane...Peace

Know what ya mean, I spent four years sleeping under a bundle of wires thicker than me and never had any problems.  Just passing on the theory.  I've also been told that high EMF can cause copper poisoning.  Who knows.  I do think it is possible that the fear cage concept holds water, but like yourself I have never seen any evidence of it.

Okay Garuhn, I guess you suffered long enough.  I have been a long time looker upper of science stuff here is a site you can go to and ask for their catalog. That way you don't have to order on line. The site is scientificsonline.com the company's name is Edmund Scientific and if its got to do with science, they most likely have it.I get their catalog about once a year, since I do a lot of electronics and science research, plus I am an avid "star looker" ( they call us astronomers) so I used to get my oculars and glass from them. As a matter of fact they have other things that may interest you, like an IR camera, Geiger counters, EMF Meters, Sound Meters, Light meters, you name it. Their customer service phone number is 1-800-728-6999 but only M-F and 08:00 to 18:00 and their ordering number is 1-800-818-4955 and this number is good 24/7.
