A Paranormal Reader is a new book by Gail Godfrey which documents numerous paranormal encounters that she, her family, and others have relayed over the years, all of which leave one guessing as to the truth behind the claims, and each leaving you wanting to read the next. Filled with some impressive intellectual snippets, the book also provides a bit of education to enthusiasts of the spirit world--on quite a few occasions, I found myself reading about legal cases I was not familiar with, and explanations behind spiritual communication that I had not heard before, and trust me, I’ve heard a lot.

Paranormal investigators, mediums, and researchers into the field of survival of consciousness are occupying a liminal space by virtue not only of their object of study, but of the interplay between investigator and the other worlds they enter at will. One must occupy these liminal spaces in order to understand them; in other words, the subject of your research turns you into an object of it, as well.

The Paranormal Equation is a new book by James D. Stein, attempting to provide a new scientific perspective on what many would consider to be inexplicable, supernatural phenomena. He begins by defining what he means by supernatural using the Merriam Webster dictionary of the term: “Of or relating to an order of existence beyond the visible observable universe; especially: of or relating to God or a god, demigod, spirit, or devil.” Science, however, does not confine “observable” to “visible”--if we were stuck with constricting ourselves to the visible, then electrons, bacteria, radio, and x-rays would be considered supernatural phenomena, so it is not accurate enough. You want to try to approach them like they are one of us, because if you go in there like some people, "How'd you die? Were you murdered?" These are sensitive questions that you should not start out with. You should try to form a bond with the spirit. Try to talk to them like they are one of you. Start off with introducing yourself and maybe asking what the spirits name is.

I am an archaeologist. I re-define the past through the material remains of past presence that I unearth through excavation. The past becomes present in this archaeological process. But what happens when that past continues to percolate “live” (and is not a residual material remains) in the present? As an archaeologist, I know that the past is not “dead”. Natural Selection and spiritualism were seen as totally incompatible, and the opinions of many stated that the clergy must have influenced his ability to be rational. His own belief held that invisible intelligences, although invisible and intangible, acted upon mankind, and these invisible intelligences were ultimately responsible for the phenomena associated with spiritualism. Although natural selection played some role in the evolution of man, so too did invisible intelligences.
