Documentary Review: Adventures of an Earthling
Written By: Paranormal News
Adventures of an Earthling is a new documentary by Boom Potato Films which chronicles the quest of a skeptical investigative TV reporter Bill Hussung as he looks into claims of UFO sightings around Hudson Valley New York. What would cause him to even bother? His mother is dying of cancer and states she is one of those who witnessed a low flying craft in the area fifteen years ago.
"What do you do when someone you know and you believe tells you something utterly fantastic?" He asks. Say they are crazy and shun them? Take them to a psychologist? Instead, he pledges to look in to the phenomena, the result of which fills 120 minutes of intriguing footage, ending with Bill having some unexplained experiences of his own.
When I watch independent documentaries such as this, I always look for something exclusive, whether that be photographs or videoclips or personal stories that seem absolutely too unbelievable to be true, and in this one, I wasn’t disappointed as Bill seems to relentlessly pursue people who have stated they had some inexplicable encounter--many of whom maintain personal paintings, footage from household security cameras rigged up to sonar devices, numerous photographs, and describe their own spiritual awakenings which take place as the result of their experiences.
Despite the high strangeness of some of the stories (leprechaun sightings? Mothman? Lizard people?), Bill continues to look into both recent local claims as well as American Indian mythology concerning the Ancient Ones who were given credit for building mysterious stone structures in the area. And it is these stone structures which seem to weigh on Bill’s mind the most. But what is the encounter that he has which turns him into a believer? You’ll just have to see the documentary yourself to find out.
I find it true, as this documentary claims, that the entire field of UFO mythology can turn someone interested in the subject quickly into a non-believer once confronted by the laundry list of weirdness. Nothing is thrown out anymore, and anyone who has read the books written by Charles Fort and the late John Keel will agree. Are UFOs inter-dimensional travelers coming through unknown portals, or flights of fancy coming from people with a lack of meaning in their lives? Bill changed his mind--will you change yours?
